Fundación Tradiciones Maya is based in Panajachel, Guatemala by Lake Atitlan. Our Fair Trade work was started 13 years ago by Jane Mintz, a former social worker and avid weaver. The purpose was to help provide work and income to women during the brutal civil war. Since then, our Foundation was formed to support these women and their families through social services and the sale of their traditional craft by merging their work with modern design. All purchases support these causes.
The Foundation works with more than 90 female artisans in 6 communites in Guatemala. These products are all handmade using the same techniques of their Maya heritage.
We work to ensure that our women not only receive a decent wage for work, but that their children receive scholarships to attend school, the families receive health education, and our women receive further training in design and marketing.
